Julia Peintner makes drawings and prints to create psychologically charged images that explore intimacy, bodily states, girl- and womanhood and the anxieties and discomforts of the modern condition. She uses observational drawing, photography and found imagery as well as autobiographical and art historical references as starting points for her work.
Her printmaking practice consists of a wide range of techniques including handprinted wood- and linocuts, monotypes, intaglio etching and drypoint. Since being a resident at Studio Kura residency in Japan in 2015 and 2017, she is also working in Japanese woodcut.
Julia graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2015 and went on to work professionally as a printmaker for Blackbird Editions. She has exhibited in the UK, Europe and the US as well as in Japan.
Her own prints are published under the imprint Pressure Press in London, where she lives and works.
